11th Kolkata International Poultry Fair 2025 – A Grand Celebration of Growth, Unity, and Innovation

The 11th Kolkata International Poultry Fair 2025, held in February at the prestigious Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, was a landmark event that showcased the remarkable progress and unity of the poultry sector in Eastern India. This grand fair, organized by the West Bengal Poultry Federation, not only reinforced Kolkata’s growing prominence as a poultry hub in South Asia but also created a powerful platform for innovation, knowledge exchange, and stakeholder collaboration.

Inauguration Ceremony: A Grand Opening

The inauguration ceremony of the 11th Kolkata International Poultry Fair 2025 was held with grandeur at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata. The event was presided over by Sri Pradeep Kumar Majumder, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of West Bengal, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was further dignified by the presence of Sri Swapan Debnath, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Animal Resources Development, Government of West Bengal, along with several distinguished guests and dignitaries from across the poultry and allied sectors. Exhibition Highlights: Connecting Markets, Technologies, and Ideas

The exhibition was one of the largest ever witnessed in Eastern India, drawing an impressive 25,000+ visitors, including poultry farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and stakeholders from West Bengal, other Indian states, and neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Mayanmar and also from South Africa. More than just a trade fair, this event served as a powerful venue to showcase new technologies, farm solutions, equipment, feed innovations, and processing techniques.

Through interactive stalls, sponsorship opportunities, souvenir promotions, and B2B forums, the fair facilitated knowledge transfer and business linkages. The sharp rise in international participation reaffirmed Kolkata’s status as a gateway to South Asia’s poultry industry. Investors and producers were particularly drawn to the fair's focused approach on modernizing poultry operations and strengthening backward and forward linkages.


Technical Seminar – “NOVACON”: Driving the Future of Poultry Innovation

As a major highlight of the 11th Kolkata International Poultry Fair 2025, the West Bengal Poultry Federation successfully hosted “NOVACON”, a full-day international technical seminar dedicated to the theme of innovation in the poultry business. Held in February 2025, the seminar brought together thought leaders, global experts, and practitioners to share insights on the latest trends and breakthroughs in poultry science and business management. Curated by the West Bengal Poultry Federation, NOVACON was designed to engage a wide range of participants including poultry farmers, entrepreneurs, veterinarians, academicians, scientists, and government officials. The seminar’s core objective was to bridge the gap between the scientific community and the grassroots poultry ecosystem by promoting knowledge exchange and innovation-driven solutions. Through NOVACON, the Federation aims to inspire all stakeholders to adopt modern technologies, optimize operations, and work towards a sustainable and future-ready poultry industry.

Student Zone: Empowering the Next Generation

A visionary addition to this year’s fair was the Student Zone, an initiative that aimed to educate and inspire the future leaders of the poultry sector. With participation from 26 colleges and over 1,500 students and teachers, this zone became a hub of interaction between academia and industry. Professors from WBUAFS and other experts engaged students in discussions on the science and business of poultry, highlighting career paths, entrepreneurship opportunities, and emerging technologies.

The Student Zone stood out as a talent discovery platform and reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to nurturing skilled manpower for a sustainable poultry future.


February 13 Technical Seminar: Ground-Level Empowerment

A Technical Seminar was organized on 13th February 2025 as part of the Kolkata Poultry Mela, aimed at empowering farm managers, poultry farmers, workers, and enthusiasts through discussions conducted in the local language for better understanding and practical implementation. The session featured a panel of distinguished experts who addressed various critical aspects of poultry farming. Broiler Ventilation was covered by Dr. Sumanta Das, who explained efficient ventilation systems to improve broiler comfort and performance. Disease Diagnosis was highlighted by Dr. Amrita Dhara, who discussed methods for early disease detection and effective management strategies. Dr. Sanjay Dehpande presented the Poultry Mela 2025 Overview through a comprehensive PPT, sharing insights on the significance and growth trends highlighted during the event. Pecking & Prolapse in Layers was addressed by Dr. Kinsuk Maity, who provided actionable guidance on managing these common welfare and productivity issues. Smart Layer Management was elaborated by Dr. P. K. Satpathy, focusing on modern practices and solutions for challenges in commercial egg production. Dr. Partha Das emphasized Water Management, highlighting the importance of providing clean water and optimizing its usage in poultry operations. The seminar served as an interactive platform, bridging the knowledge gap and strengthening the practical know-how of grassroots-level stakeholders in the poultry sector.


Pan India Broiler Coordination Committee (PIBCC) Meeting: Strategic Sectoral Discussion

The fair also hosted the Pan India Broiler Coordination Committee Meeting, where poultry leaders from across the country discussed current market challenges, including price crashes in Northern India and high feed costs. Shri Vasanthkumar C. Setty inaugurated the session, which included sectoral overviews, award distributions, and calls for stronger inter-state coordination.

Representatives from DAHD, private industry, and state associations stressed the importance of unity, data sharing, and organized representation to navigate volatile market conditions. Several states, including Assam, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, were recognized for their efforts in National Chicken Day promotions, underlining the role of marketing in consumer outreach.


Eastern India Poultry Development Forum (EIPDF) Meeting: A Vision for Regional Integration

A parallel high-impact session during the fair was the EIPDF meeting, where representatives from 12 Eastern and Northeastern states came together to craft a shared roadmap for poultry sector development. Inspired by the West Bengal Federation model, the forum proposed a common organizational structure with state-wise Presidents and Vice Presidents to promote unity and data consistency.

Policy discussions included implementation of poultry subsidies, feed input cost reduction strategies, and regional branding of poultry products. The meeting called for institutional support, quarterly coordination meetings, and stronger inter-state collaboration to build a self-reliant Eastern Indian poultry economy.


Ceremonial Dinner: Celebrating Culture and Unity

The ceremonial dinner, held on February 12th at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre, was a vibrant cultural celebration. The evening featured a mesmerizing musical performance by renowned singer Albert Kabo Lepcha, and a colourful Bihu dance by a team from Assam. The event reflected the unity and cultural richness of Eastern India and added an unforgettable touch to the fair’s atmosphere.


Closing Ceremony: Gratitude and New Beginnings

The fair concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony led by General Secretary Mr. Madan Mohan Maity, who summarized the fair’s major achievements and extended gratitude to all exhibitors, staff, and supporters. Awards were given to stall owners for excellence in design and ambiance, while vendors and support teams were honoured for their valuable contributions. In a meaningful gesture, the General Secretary presented “Uttorios” to all team members as a token of appreciation. The event closed with a collective vote of thanks and a renewed commitment to further the cause of poultry development across the region.


In essence, the 11th Kolkata International Poultry Fair 2025 was not just an event, but a landmark movement—bridging policy, science, and enterprise to shape the future of poultry in Eastern India.
